Educating Communities

We’re proud to share that Sage Compassion for Animals founder, Dr. Julie Smith and Board Member, Dr. Lissa Richardson, were invited by the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) to present a continuing education seminar for veterinarians and veterinary teams across California.
Drawing from more than 25 years of experience as veterinary surgeons and the impactful work Sage Compassion for Animals has led over the past six years, they spoke about how veterinary teams can help provide compassionate, high-quality care to families facing financial barriers.
Their presentation focused on real-world strategies for supporting pets and the people who love them , ensuring that financial hardship doesn’t automatically mean losing access to lifesaving care.
We’re honored to contribute to these important conversations within the veterinary community and grateful to the CVMA for the opportunity to share Sage Compassion for Animals mission and experience with veterinary professionals statewide.
Growing Our Impact Together
Stories about pet families getting access to the veterinary care they need are possible because of a community that believes pets deserve access to lifesaving veterinary care when they need it most.
That’s why we’re honored to share that Sage Compassion for Animals has received a $5,000 grant from the Shaw Family Charitable Trust.
The Shaw Family Charitable Trust supports organizations across the United States that work to improve the lives of animals and reduce suffering through thoughtful, long-term impact.
Their investment will help us continue providing critical veterinary care to pets facing medical emergencies and support families during some of their most difficult moments.
We’re grateful to the Shaw Family Charitable Trust for believing in our mission and helping us create more second chances for pets and the people who love them.

• $2,500 can save the life of a pet, covering an emergency surgery of critical treatment.
• $5,000 enables Sage Compassion for Animals to fund higher-cost procedures – like an orthopedic fracture repair by a specialist.
• $15,000 donated quarterly, enables Sage Compassion for Animals to double the amount of immediate emergency grants available.
