A Year of Big Impact for Pets and Familes

As we move into a new year in 2026, we want to pause and share something we’re incredibly proud of, and deeply grateful for.
Because of compassionate supporters, 2025 was a year of real, measurable impact for pets and families across our San Francisco Bay Area community.
Together, we accomplished something extraordinary:
- $234,302 in lifesaving veterinary care funded
- 127 animals saved in just one year
- $19,525 awarded on average every month
- $2,500 the average cost to save a pet’s life
And that’s just part of the story.
Since 2020, Sage Compassion for Animals has Helped Make Possible:
- Over 500 pets saved
- Over $1.2 million in veterinary care funded
- Partnerships with 56 veterinary clinics across 9 Bay Area counties
- Over 90% of every dollar raised going directly to veterinary care
This is what compassion in action looks like.
Why This Work Matters
At Sage Compassion for Animals, our mission is simple but urgent:
to keep pets safe, healthy, and home with the families who love them, when finances are the only barrier to care.
We don’t just fund treatment.
We prevent financial euthanasia.
We give families more time.
And we help veterinarians say “yes” when they otherwise couldn’t.
As Board President Katrina Warburton shares:
“I joined Sage Compassion for Animals because I know firsthand how devastating it can be to face a life-or-death decision for a beloved pet based on finances… Many families are not as fortunate, and too often they are forced to make an impossible decision despite a positive prognosis. Knowing there is an organization that helps remove financial barriers so families can save their pets, is why I’ve remained committed to this work.”
Katrina’s experience and the stories of families like hers are why this mission matters. Please download our 2025 Annual Report here.
A Life Changed Because Our Supporters Said “Yes”

Meet Nena.
From the moment Nena came home, it was clear she belonged.
Just five months old, Nena had already experienced more than most puppies her age. But in her new home, she found exactly what she needed: safety, patience, and a deep, unspoken bond with her family — especially with her mom.
As her family shared, “Their bond goes beyond words, it’s something you feel.”
Nena followed her everywhere. She curled up close, trusted easily, and offered the kind of quiet companionship that makes a house feel like home.
Then, during those early days together, Nena was injured when her leash became tangled around her leg. She was in pain, and her family rushed her to get help, frightened not just for her safety, but by the possibility that finances could stand in the way of caring for the puppy they had already fallen in love with.
Nena was diagnosed with a fractured leg that required careful surgery. With guidance from the compassionate team at Maverick Veterinary Surgery Services, her family was connected with Sage Compassion for Animals when options felt limited.
Because of supporters like you, Nena received the surgery she needed, and her family was able to focus on what mattered most: helping her heal.
Today, Nena is recovering, growing stronger each day, and continuing to deepen the bond that brought her home in the first place. Every small step forward is a reminder of what’s possible when compassion shows up at just the right moment.
Nena isn’t just a success story.
She’s a family kept whole, because Sage Compassion for Animals helped make it possible.

No Pet Left Behind
Over 90% of every donated dollar goes directly to veterinary care, making a life-saving difference for pet families in crisis.
• $2,500 can save the life of a pet, covering an emergency surgery of critical treatment.
• $5,000 enables Sage Compassion for Animals to fund higher-cost procedures – like an orthopedic fracture repair by a specialist.
• $15,000 donated quarterly, enables Sage Compassion for Animals to double the amount of immediate emergency grants available.
