Celebrating New Beginnings at Casa Quezada

At Mission Action, our housing programs are more than just a place to sleep—they are spaces of safety, affirmation, and dignity for San Francisco’s most vulnerable communities. Grounded in a trauma-informed and harm-reduction approach, programs are designed to provide immediate stability and to cultivate resilience, foster empowerment, and open pathways to long-term housing. In December, our Casa Quezada program celebrated a major milestone as three long-time residents graduated from the program and moved into permanent supportive housing.

Operating since 2011, Casa Quezada honors the legacy of Eric Quezada, our former Executive Director, providing community care through supportive housing for low-income adults with a history of homelessness—many of whom are monolingual Spanish-speakers and pre-documented immigrants. The program provides 52 units in a single-room occupancy (SRO) building, with shared kitchens, bathrooms, and community spaces that foster connection. As the resident population has aged, the program has grown to meet the needs of older adults, helping them remain healthy, socially connected, and able to age in peace. 

Our newly graduated residents had been part of Casa Quezada since the program first opened in 2011, making their transition both emotional and deeply meaningful. While leaving the stability and close support of Casa Quezada was not easy; this next step was made possible through a partnership with Mercy Housing. 

Throughout the process, Casa Quezada’s supportive services team worked closely with each resident, providing guidance on housing applications and helping build essential life skills such as managing rent and utilities and navigating independent living. 

Today, these graduates are stepping confidently into a new chapter—encouraged to dream bigger, pursue opportunities they once thought were out of reach, and build lasting stability. We are incredibly proud of them and honored to have been part of their journey.
